SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area)

Why should you use SEPA-transfers?
  • FASTER PAYMENTS: At present, cross-border payments in Europe can take up to five business days. Now payment times will only take as long as a national bank transfer.
  • COSTS: In addition the SEPA-transfer is charged with the same fees as a national bank transfer.
  • HOW: You can get a suitable transfer form at your bank. For online banking you can simply choose the option “Foreign transfer”
  • Please note that in some countries you have to pay in € if you want to pay by SEPA-transfer.
See table below to get to know if your country is affected.
What exactly is SEPA?

In everyday life the EU-transfer will be replaced increasingly with the SEPA-transfer. Then there will not be made any differences between national and international bank transfers within the EU, anymore.
The bank code number and the account number will be replaced generally with BIC and IBAN.

The SEPA transfer is a voluntary creation of the bank sector by the European Payment Council (EPC).
You may note that states which are not part of the European Economic Area (EEA) are still integrated into the SEPA.
Therefore the EU-regulations are only valid for member states of the EEA.
For example it is possible to do a simplified SEPA-transfer to Switzerland, but the transfer could be charged with higher fees than a transfer between member states.

Validity of the EU-pricing regulation, list of all countries
The validity of the EU-pricing regulation encloses the EU (independent on the introduction of the €) and in addition the 3 European Economic Area-states Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway.

Validity of the EU-regulation 924/2009 (predecessor: 2560/2001)
